New Year, New Chaos: The Hilarious Kickstart to 2025
Ah, January—the month of fresh starts, grand intentions, and, in my case, a whirlwind of chaos that would put any circus to shame. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to juggle New Year’s resolutions, school lunches, and a sudden passion for DIY projects while trying to keep two small humans alive, buckle up. This is the story of my first two weeks of 2025.
The Resolutions: Pilates and 10,000 Steps
The year started off with the usual optimistic resolutions: I would do Pilates every morning, walk 10,000 steps a day, and transform into a zen master of household harmony. Spoiler alert—none of that happened quite as planned. My first attempt at Pilates was interrupted by a tiny voice demanding cereal, which quickly turned into a wrestling match over the last spoon. The 10,000 steps? Most days, I think I managed about half of that, if you count pacing the kitchen while waiting for the toaster.
The DIY Dilemma: New Year’s Eve Inspiration
New Year’s Eve found me struck by a brilliant idea—I would panel the bedroom. The clock had barely struck midnight, and I was already dreaming of a Pinterest-worthy haven. Fast forward to New Year’s Day, and there I was, in the DIY store at 5 pm (prime dinner meltdown time), with my girls in tow, picking out paneling. My husband, fully aware of my "now I’m in the zone" mentality, just rolled with it.
The Great Paneling Fiasco
We got home, and I decided there was no time like the present to start the project. Dinner? That’s what snacks are for. Bedtime? Overrated. I was a woman on a mission. My husband, bless his heart, managed to get the kids fed and somewhat settled while I went to war with measuring tapes and saws. By the end of the night, we had a half-paneled wall and a floor covered in sawdust. The girls? Sound asleep, probably dreaming of their mum going slightly mad.
Day Two: The Guest Room Gauntlet
The next day, reality hit. I had to work in the guest room, which was now a maze of an unmade bed, a chest of drawers, and paint rollers. Trying to focus on work while tripping over DIY supplies is a skill they don’t teach you in business school. Meetings were punctuated by the sound of my husband, who was still taking it all in stride, herding the kids away from wet paint and sharp tools.
The Balancing Act: Everyday Mum Life
Amidst all this, there were school lunches to pack, hobbies to supervise, and a house to manage. My attempts at healthy meal prepping often resulted in the discovery of rogue carrot sticks in my purse and yogurt explosions in the fridge. The girls’ hobbies became mine by extension—swim lessons and tennis turned our living room into a mini sports academy.
The Conclusion: Embracing the Chaos
By the end of the two weeks, the bedroom was finally paneled, the guest room was back to its former glory, and I had a newfound appreciation for my husband’s patience and my own tenacity. Did I stick to my resolutions perfectly? Absolutely not. But did I survive, with a few laughs along the way? You bet.
So here’s to all the manifesting mummas out there, tackling the New Year with a mix of ambition, humor, and a whole lot of coffee. May your 2025 be filled with wild projects, unexpected adventures, and the endless joy of juggling it all.
